Sam: I dated an Indian guy (as in, from INDIA) when I was in high school. Sweet guy, funny, fun to be around... you get the idea. My parents someone drummed up the idea in their heads that he was Hindu and that would affect my "normal" Christian mentality. For starters, he was agnostic and his parents were Hindu. He thought the whole Hindu thing was bizarre. Second of all, I am strong enough in my beliefs to have them be my beliefs, and not my boyfriend's or my parents.
They also claimed the relationship would have been disastrous because of what "other people" might say. Last I checked, the only people who had a problem with the relationship were my parents themselves. Ultimately the relationship didn't last, but not due to my parents' annoyance.
Allison: I've never dated outside of my race, which is probably due to the fact that I grew up in a town that was 95% white. I not opposed to the idea though! If Taye Diggs came knocking on my door, I'd be down. But I'm not sure my parents would approve. I think the only people who really have problems with interracial dating are the older generations. My friend Kelly, for example, only dates black guys. Power to her!
Samantha: Hmmmm...I'm Asian sooo any relationship I have is a interracial one. But I've never dated another Asian, African-American, Indian, and such. I've dated American looking guys and I don't oppose the idea of dating another type of race, but for myself I like the American guys.
